Background
Barlow co-founded AppLearn in Manchester, building the company around a problem that became increasingly important as businesses invested more heavily in enterprise software: helping organisations understand and improve how employees actually use technology.
Over the following years, AppLearn developed into an international software business working with large organisations on digital adoption. Building the company gave Barlow experience across product development, enterprise technology, international business development, sales and the practical challenges involved in taking a technology company from an idea into a functioning business.
That experience has strongly influenced his perspective on artificial intelligence. While much of the discussion around AI focuses on model capability, Barlow is particularly interested in what happens further downstream: where AI changes workflows, removes constraints, improves decision-making, creates new economics or enables entirely new businesses.
His current work explores those opportunities from both an entrepreneurial and commercial perspective.
